Sensing Nature Programs - Bringing Nature to You!
June 25, 2026
(updated July 5, 2026)
Thank you for a wonderful May and June! We are looking forward to a great July too.
All Summer Long
Every summer, we are always excited to visit other organizations' summer camps and share a little bit of nature with the campers, and this summer has been hopping with program requests - thank you to everyone who has invited us out to their summer camps so far, from Tarpon Springs to Riverview! Right now, our "Sensing Wildlife" and "What Makes a Bird a Bird?" programs have been the most often requested, with Brian's "Prehistoric Florida Fossils" being a close runner-up.
In May
In May, we graduated our spring adult UF FMNP Coastal Systems class (Great job, Grads!) and we also finished out a fun spring semester of school field trips.
During June
In June, we enjoyed meeting so many visitors interested in making our oceans healthier, while we also refreshed connections with other like-minded environmental organizations at our Sensing Nature booth during the World Ocean Day event held locally at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium on June 6th, with Keep Pinellas Beautiful leading the way.

Teachers, teachers everywhere - at least they were during the second week of June during St. Petersburg Audubon Society's 18th Annual Teacher Ecology Camp. Each year, we are fortunate to be asked to facilitate and teach Florida teachers and informal educators about natural Florida. This year, we got our hands into the soil and learned all about creating habitat within our own landscapes and how to attract wildlife. (I wonder if anyone has nesting activity yet in their Screech Owl birdhouse that they built and took home?)
Did you hear that? Was it a frog calling or a gator's roar? Don't know for sure? Well, our most recent class of FMNP Graduates does! In late June, we graduated our Wildlife Monitoring class, and the adult students learned about mammal, avian, and herptile monitoring and survey programs, including aural (sound) monitoring methods and their values. Anyone ready to go frog listening?
To wrap up June, we had a blast on Saturday, June 27th. We joined Bok Tower Gardens for their Fossil Festival, and we had a fantastic time. The crowd was eager to learn, and Sensing Nature was excited to teach about Florida's prehistoric megafauna. Brian gave his outstanding fossil presentation, then joined Alice, Joan, and me at the fossil touch-table activities, which were for all ages and included matching games, fossil ID, and even mammoth coloring pages for the younger crowd. There were other fossil-ish activities and presentations too, which rounded out the day. Thank you to everyone who grabbed their families and joined us. We hope BTG will make this one of their annual signature events.
Highlights for July
